1. Relevant Parameter
(1) Acid Value: Indicates the amount of free acid in an insulating oil. A low acid value indicates a better chemical stability of the insulating oil. For example, some insulating oils may have an acid value of no more than 0.02 mgKOH/g.
(2) Moisture: Indicates the amount of water contained in the insulating oil, usually in trace amounts. The presence of moisture affects the electrical properties of the insulating oil, so the moisture content should be kept at a low level.
(3) Corrosive Sulfur: Used to detect the corrosiveness of sulfides in insulating oils. The presence of corrosive sulphur may cause damage to equipment and should therefore be strictly controlled.
(4) Water-soluble acids or bases: Used to detect the content of water-soluble acids or bases in insulating oils. These substances may affect the electrical properties and stability of the insulating oil.
2. Selection Principle
Firstly, it is necessary to consider whether the performance and quality of the oil can meet the requirements of the equipment voltage level, the environmental temperature of the location, and other factors on the oil. In addition, the compatibility between the oil and other related insulation materials should also be considered.
Before the official implementation of the new national standard GB 2536 for transformer oil, transformer oil was usually selected in China based on the climatic conditions and voltage levels of the regions where electrical equipment is used.
The method of selecting transformer oil according to different voltage levels of power transmission and transformation is to use ordinary transformer oil according to GB 2536-1990 standard for 330kV or below voltage, while ultra-high voltage transformer oil according to SH 0040 standard is used for 500kV voltage level. To ensure that outdoor transformers can be put into operation at any time in winter, it is stipulated to use transformer oil with a pour point not higher than the local minimum temperature.
For areas with a minimum temperature above -10 ℃, use -10 transformer oil; for areas with a minimum temperature below -10 ℃ and above -25 ℃, use -25 transformer oil; and for areas with a minimum temperature below -25 ℃ and above -45 ℃, use -45 transformer oil. Oil with low pour point can replace oil with high pour point.
