Zimbabwe's ZESA Plans to Quintuple Transformer Production
ZESA Enterprises announced plans to increase its annual transformer production target from 600 units in 2021 to 3,000 units by 2025, emphasizing higher quality, local technological advantages, and innovative anti-theft designs.
Zimbabwe News: ZESA Enterprises (ZENT) recently announced a significant expansion of its transformer production plan, aiming to achieve an output of 3,000 units this year—a substantial increase from the 600 units produced in 2021.
General Manager Godfrey Mugaviri told ZBC News that domestically manufactured transformers have proven more reliable than some imported products, offering a 25-year warranty and adhering to stringent quality standards. He emphasized that ZENT not only manufactures but also independently designs transformers by leveraging professionals trained through university partnerships.
This capacity expansion reflects steady growth in recent years. Mugaviri noted that achieving this target requires stable raw material supply and potential production line upgrades to further enhance efficiency. This expansion will also create more jobs within the industry.
To address transformer vandalism, ZENT has incorporated aluminum in some designs as a substitute for copper, which remains a primary target for theft.
Mugaviri stated that with ZENT's technical capabilities and government support, the company is now equipped to meet domestic demand and strengthen Zimbabwe's power infrastructure.
