Transformer oil, a necessary insulating medium for electrical equipment, is largely extracted and refined from petroleum, with alkanes and cycloalkanes being its primary components. With excellent electrical insulation properties, it can efficiently isolate the high-voltage parts within the transformer, thus stopping leakage and short circuits. Due to its good thermal conductivity, it can rapidly carry away the heat produced during the transformer's operation, preventing overheating and damage. It also has some arc-extinguishing capability, quickly extinguishing the arc when the switching device interrupts the current and forms an arc.

2. Factors Affecting Service Life

To maintain the longevity of transformer oil, it is essential to conduct regular quality analysis and testing. The testing process includes evaluating insulation resistance, absorption ratio, polarization index, dielectric loss, winding leakage current, and the presence of microwater in the oil. By thoroughly analyzing these results, one can identify issues such as moisture content, impurities, or aging. If problems are detected, an initial step can be to attempt oil regeneration through filtration for continued use. However, if filtration does not resolve the issue or if the oil quality has significantly declined, replacing the transformer oil with a new supply becomes necessary.
