1. Important Indicators
(1) Breakdown Voltage: Indicates the maximum voltage that the insulating oil can withstand under certain conditions. A high breakdown voltage means that the oil has better electrical insulation properties. For example, some insulating oils may have a breakdown voltage of 48kV (2.5mm spacing).
(2) Dielectric Loss Factor: A measure of the power dissipated by the dielectric material of an insulating oil when subjected to an AC voltage. A low dielectric loss factor indicates that the electrical properties of the insulating oil are superior.
(3) Interfacial Tension: Indicates the surface tension between the insulating oil and different substances. The magnitude of interfacial tension affects the distribution and wetting properties of the insulating oil in the equipment.
(4) Closed Flash Point:Indicates the ignition point of the insulating oil,i.e.the lowest temperature at which a mixture of vapour and air on the oil surface will flash when close to a flame.Higher flash point means higher safety of insulating oil.For example,some insulating oils may have a closed flash point higher than 140°C.
