Transformer oil is vital in electrical equipment for providing insulation between charged parts, thereby preventing short circuits. The dielectric constant of air is 1.0, whereas transformer oil has a dielectric constant of 2.25, indicating that its insulating strength is significantly greater than that of air. For instance, a coil of transformer oil exposed to air would quickly be punctured while in operation. However, filling transformer coils with transformer oil enhances their insulating strength, preventing punctures. Furthermore, as the quality of the oil improves, the safety factor of the equipment is also increased.

1. Preparation for Oiling
To decide when to change the transformer oil, consider the transformer's operational status, historical data, and the predetermined maintenance schedule. Typically, transformer oil should be replaced every 3 to 5 years.
Choose the appropriate transformer oil based on the transformer's model and the actual working conditions.
Prepare the necessary tools and equipment for the oil change, such as oil drums, pumps, pipes, filters, filter elements, thermometers, level gauges, cleaning cloths, protective gloves, coveralls, and helmets.
Take necessary safety precautions: Ensure the operator is wearing protective gear and the work area is safe, free from any open flames or smoking.
