CALABA, Philippines — Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has completed a major upgrade of its 230kV-115kV Calaba Power Supply Substation. Amid sustained regional electricity demand growth, the project will strengthen the power network serving Laguna and Batangas provinces.

The project includes the addition of a new 300 MVA transformer, new 115kV and 230kV gas circuit breakers, and advanced protection and control systems. These enhancements expand substation capacity while improving system reliability and operational flexibility.

Metro Manila Power Corporation stated this investment forms part of its broader grid modernization plan to deliver stable, high-quality electricity supply across its concession area. The upgraded Calabarzon substation will support key commercial and industrial customers including Calabarzon SM Mall, SM Mall of Santo Tomas, Mariwasa – Siam Ceramics, Calabarzon Doctors Hospital, Murata Manufacturing, STMicroelectronics, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines, while also serving surrounding communities.

The company noted that these upgrades align with its long-term strategy to meet the growing energy demands in Southern Luzon while maintaining high standards of supply efficiency and service reliability.
