High Efficiency Gear Transmission Oils

Gear oil, formulated from either petroleum-based or synthetic lubricant base oils, incorporates extreme pressure anti-wear additives and oily agents. It serves as a crucial lubricant in various gear transmission systems, safeguarding against tooth wear, abrasion, sintering, and other forms of degradation. This, in turn, prolongs the lifespan of the gears and enhances the efficiency of power transmission, while also minimizing power loss.

Product Details:High Efficiency Gear Transmission Oils

Gear oils should exhibit strong anti-wear properties, high load resistance, and a proper viscosity. They must also possess good thermal and oxidative stability, effective anti-foaming, efficient water separation, and anti-rust qualities. Considering that gear loads frequently exceed 490 MPa, and hyperbolic tooth loads can go as high as 2942 MPa, extreme pressure anti-wear agents, such as sulfur-phosphorus or sulfur-phosphorus-nitrogen additives, are often incorporated into gear oils to prevent oil film rupture due to wear and abrasion. Gear oils make up about 6% to 8% of the total lubricating oil inventory.

1. Characteristic

Essential properties of gear oil include an appropriate viscosity and a favorable viscosity temperature. A higher viscosity contributes to the creation of a thicker lubricating film, providing higher load-carrying capacity.

Gear oil's paramount qualities are its extreme pressure and wear resistance, which are also its primary characteristics. Considering that gear loads generally exceed 490 MPa, and hyperbolic tooth surfaces can endure loads as great as 2942 MPa, the addition of extreme pressure anti-wear agents to gear oil is vital to prevent tooth surface wear and abrasion due to oil film breakdown. Previously, additives such as sulfur-chlorine, sulfur-phosphorus-chlorine, sulfur-chlorine-phosphorus-zinc, sulfur-lead, and sulfur-phosphorus-lead were commonly employed. However, sulfur-phosphorus or sulfur-phosphorus-nitrogen additives are now the standard.

2. Main Indicators

Viscosity is a critical factor in selecting gear oils. In 1983, the SAE categorized automotive gear oils into seven grades based on their kinematic viscosity at 98.9°C (210°F). Grades 70W, 75W, 80W, and 85W are designed for winter and cold regions, with recommended minimum temperatures of -55°C, -40°C, -26°C, and -12°C, respectively. The remaining grades, 90, 140, and 250, denote increasing levels of viscosity. In recent times, energy-saving considerations have led to the widespread adoption of low-viscosity, thickened oils (multigrade gear oils) suitable for all seasons. Industrial gear oils adhere to the same viscosity classification system as lubricating oils, utilizing the kinematic viscosity center value at 40°C.
